The Battle Weapons mash-up juggernaut rolls ever onwards this time delivering a vinyl 7″ featuring two edits entitled Once In A Plastic Time and Coffee Kiss by the aptly-named Cheeky Boy. Aptly-named because his modus operandi is to sample well-known mega-funk cuts – in the former case Talking Heads’ Once In A Lifetime and splice them with 90s/ early 00s house vocals – in the case of the latter Dave Lee and Pacha’s One Kiss. Trying to ‘house’ the monkey? Less Cheeky Boy than very naughty boy indeed! Do they work though? Well, drop these on a non-purist dancefloor and you’ll almost certainly be hoisted to the crowd’s shoulders: drop these on a purist dancefloor and you’ll probably be hoisted by your own petard. You must choose (as the grail knight once said to Indiana Jones)…but choose wisely. The monkey’ll leave you to fill in the sample knowledge gaps.
