DONNOYA DRAKE: You Don’t Love Me (No No No)(Vinyl 7″)

When Dawn Penn recorded rocksteady track You Don’t Love Me for Studio One in 1967, she would probably have been surprised to hear that she would re-record it in 1994 in a dancehall stylee which would become a massive worldwide hit. What many people don’t know is that Penn’s ’67 recording was actually a cover of Willie Cobbs’ 1960 RnB track You Don’t Love Me – itself based on Bo Diddley’s 1955 blues number She’s Fine, She’s Mine. But what if Penn’s rocksteady version had been based on an early ska version instead? I wonder what that would sound like? Enter Original Gravity’s Neil Anderson. No, no, no – he hasn’t! He certainly has! And with the aid of the splendid Donnoya Drake it’s become a reality and every bit the banger you’d expect.
