On new single Gone With The Wind, Brother Wallace seemingly pays homage to The Four Tops’ Sugar Pie Honey Bunch with a piano chord motif used both at the start and later in the track. Lest that give you the impression this is nothing more than a cover by any other name, rest assured that while Wallace’s cut is clearly stylistically indebted to the Motown sound, the bulk of it references a slightly later era than the Tops’ early 60s hit. This single follows the grittier stomp of its predecessor Electric Love and precedes an album of the same name due at the start of May. Of it, Wallace says, “I started writing that song when I was driving home from work one day, feeling like I needed to let the world go and take some time out for myself.” We’ve all been there. Check Gone With The Wind and give yourself permission to turn the world and all its bullshit off for a minute.
