Another single from one half of Original Gravity’s deadly duo of acts when it comes to original ska, rocksteady and reggae nuggets – in this case Donnoya Drake (the other being Junior Dell & The D-Lites) – and it’s a cover….of Dee-Lite’s unmistakeable 1990 one-hit wonder Groove Is In The Heart. On this version, the funk groove becomes an uptempo rocksteady one with Drake in the Lady Miss Keir role. How to translate Q-Tip’s rap into a late sixties Jamaican musical-type scenario though? Bit of male voice toasting in patois? Yep, that should do it.
