Rating: Travellers down the Led Zeppelin covers highway, are strongly advised to look out for dodgy reggae tracks with even more dodgy names (D’Yer Maker) and any lyrical references to The Lord of the Rings strewn in their path. Given the frequency of the latter, that does make for a dangerous journey. It’s enough to make you arrive at your destination dazed and confused in fact. Happily, Hannah Williams & The Affirmations dextrously avoid these multiple hazards to arrive at their destination Dazed & Confused in neither state. In fact, so together are they that for the second single off their debut LP they manage to pull off an epic psych-funk take of the famous Led Zep cut. Which was itself a – er – Jake Holmes cover in the first place. Probably explains the lack of orcs and elves.
