VARIOUS: Toxic Funk presents Boots Of Paradise

Toxic Funk presents Boots Of ParadiseSay hello to the latest massive compilation from Breakbeat Paradise snappily titled Toxic Funk presents Boots Of Paradise. As you have rightly guessed by now, that means you’re getting some serious bootleg action in the form of no fewer than thirteen tracks from a host of BBP regulars plus a smattering of newer names. Among the latter are Towlie DJ who woozily updates the funky breaks template slinging that pitch on the synths around like a blind tarmacker, Boydex – who goes for a more conventional Cassidy-employing disco-breakin’ groove, Suckaside who splices Nas over a heavy, lurching piano-led beat and LROY dirtily funking up the Wu. Among the regulars, there’s plenty more reliable party breaks material from Jayl Funk’s pumping opener to The Breakbeat Junkie’s Jungle Boogie refix.  There’s also a fair bit of variety too if that floats your boat. Both Mr Bristow and label owner Badboe get things swinging, Aliens In Denmark go boom-bap dancehall, Morlack goes four-to-the-floor, Pecoe’s all the way funky disco and Mako & Mr Bristow introduce the Trojan boss reggae sound to Motown on Uptight Boss to ensure reggae most definitely got soul.
