VARIOUS: Funk Butter Volume One

VARIOUS: Funk Butter Volume OneSay hello to the latest from DJ Roast Beatz’ Cuttin’ It Fine label, Funk Butter Volume One which is every bit as smooth as the title promises. Four edits then from Frankee More, Mr Fitz, Pecoe and Roast Beatz himself, all set to bring a bit of smooch to bass funk dancefloors. The opener is More’s tone-setting rerub of DeBarge’s I like It while Pecoe brings some breakbeat sunshine to – er – Sunshine Love in a more uptempo cut, a blend of Sisters Love and Roy Ayers and the closer finds Mr Beatz himself get all whoomp on Chic’s Good Times by way of a stomping closer. What have we missed? Ah yes, the highlight (for the monkey) of Sharon’s Land – Mr Fitz’s subtle breakbeat re-fix of the late Sharon Jone’s This Land with added Wu bars. Only the humble Juno player for now, probably because the sample police are still angling for their cut.
