TOM CARUANA presents: ‘Black Gold’ Wu-Tang vs. Jimi Hendrix – Free download album (2011) + instrumentals

Rating: ★★★★★ It’s a legal minefield on this one as Tom Caruana continues his mash-up series and trumps both his Beatles/ Wu Tang and Okayplayer/ Bollywood efforts with a Jimi/ Wu soundclash. According to TC, “it features 2 exclusive tracks from Wu Tang affiliates Gab Gotcha & Young Dirty Bastard (ODB’s son) …has taken around 6 months to create and features much more original material than the Beatles album (there are only 4 samples from cover versions).” He continues, “I went through hundreds of tracks, jams, outtakes, collaboration & interviews to find the samples. I also tried to use some more obscure acapellas where I could. There was a meeting about this album between Sony and Wu Music Group, but alas nothing came of it.” Nothing came of it? Are they fucking bonkers? Honestly – you can lead a horse to water… you’d have thought in this day and age that dinosaur music megacorps would have welcomed the chance to be on this like Sonic – imagine it in collectable glorious double vinyl with a gatefold cover – gotta be a winner with rising vinyl sales. Black Gold is every bit as gigantic as you’d expect – don’t sleep! Cop it while it’s hot below, preview track Last Call and then whole LP on soundcloud players below that and check tracklist on back cover below that:

N.b. The mp3 versions have a folder with alternative artwork from the competition that Wu Tang ran. The WAVs don’t have any artwork.

  4. Jahwise says:

    is this the instrumental album?

  5. StoneMonkey says:

Nope. Vocal. Here’s a re-up on the instros – haven’t tested it though:
Sorry – it got confusing for a while. MB was the first blog on the planet to post the mixtape and then TC contacted me to say take the links down as the Wu wanted to flog cds first. Then he contacted me a few days later to say it had gone viral anyway so I might as well put them back up – of course by this time MB had lost it’s google page-ranking for Black Gold search results 🙁

  6. StoneMonkey says:

Have just re-upped the instrumental link in the main post too.
