Like cinematic soul? ‘Course you do and so you’ll love the new Ironsides single, ‘The Web’ with its beautifully arranged nod to the grandiose and sweeping film scores of the sixties. The bedrock of this one is a funky rhythm (and yes there is an actual short drum break solo) but what will really catch and hold you about The Web is its rich orchestration – all epic strings and, later in the track, squalling psychedelic guitars that evoke Big Sur coastlines and effortlessly cool types speeding along in sixties muscle cars beneath the bluest of skies while perfectly lined-up sets roll in from the deep ocean towards the other kind of breaks. Full-length album Changing Light drops next month and you know that is going to be a treat.
