THE BURROUGHS: The Slip/ Forever In Love

THE BURROUGHS: The Slip/ Forever In LoveTwo slices of throwback soul here on this ‘digital 45′ from nine-piece Colorado outfit The Burroughs, signed to Color Red Records – the label started by The New Mastersounds’ Eddie Roberts. The Slip takes its cues from the one and only Mr James Brown with the sort of fat in-the-pocket Cold Sweat-era groove that the JB’s would be happy with and that, presumably, another JB (i.e. bandleader Johnny Burroughs) is very happy with as he regales punters with a tale of how to sidestep stalker exes and angry landladies. ‘Forever In Love’ meanwhile employs a more jangly groove likened (with some justification) in the PR blah to Barbara Acklin’s Am I The Same Girl. Enough ammunition, you would have thought, for an analog 45 but we live in straitened times!
