I’ve just heard Boca 45‘s new LP and it goes large. This is the lead single and it goes large too. It’s right there in the name: Mr Big Sun. Big. Like the sun. A great big psychedelic funk-rock sun that finds Stephanie McKay‘s whispery but urgent vocal barely restrained over voodoo percussion that builds and builds until she lets rip over a Zep/ Purple type riff. Between them Katalyst and Stephanie McKay seem to have captured the authentic atmosphere of a French summer’s evening with this sweet little number from Katalyst’s forthcoming album. Not bad for someone from Sydney and someone from New York and even weirder since it’s a slice of tremolo-guitar infused reggae soul that should probably have conjured up somewhere Jamaican or at least New World-y
