(PRESS RELEASE) Voices of the Voiceless is the long awaited first collaboration between two of the world’s most conscious recording artists, Lowkey and Immortal Technique.
Lowkey who hails from London is the fastest rising star in British urban music having racked up over 100 shows in 2009 so far as well as giving talks and lectures at political events around the world. The rapper/poet of mixed Arab and British descent has been dubbed as “one of the best lyricists in the Western Hemisphere” by Benjamin Zephaniah and has been wowing audiences as a solo artist as well as in the Indie/Hip Hop superband Mongrel (made up of members of the Arctic Monkeys, Babyshambles and Reverend and the Makers) for which Lowkey is a lead vocalist.
Immortal Technique has been dominating in the independent music arena for the last 5 years with his last two albums (Revolutionary Volume 2 and Third World) selling in their 10,000s on his independent label Viper Records as well as him touring the world drawing huge crowds in all continents.
Both artists are known for their no holds barred political commentaries and supreme lyrical ability and this single is a testament to that with its eerie production a perfect match for the hauntingly poignant lyrics.

LOWKEY & FAITH SFX: Alphabet Assassin Video
Lowkey and Faith SFX hook up for one of those runs through the alphabet that rappers like to knock out every now and then. Lowkey’s on verbals and Faith SFX beatboxes throughout which I guess is this one’s USP. It’s alright – my favourite’s ‘D’ but truth be told I’m more impressed with Faith SFX and anyway, it’s hard to get too excited as Blackalicious gave this type of thing a proper rinsing with Alphabet Aerobics back when they were good.

LOWKEY: Tears To Laughter – Gaza Appeal (Press release)
Today marks the official digital release of Lowkey’s single ‘Tears to Laughter’ through iTunes. The single was first heard when he performed it as a poem at the London protests against the Gaza massacre at the beginning of the year. It has already become the unofficial soundtrack to many protests, university occupations and fundraising events for Gaza and Palestine across the UK. Lowkey and the single have already received support from the likes of Palestine Solidarity, Tony Benn (Stop the War), Lauren Booth (Aloha Palestine) and George Galloway MP (Respect Party/Viva Palestina). Lowkey and his record label SO Empire Recordings will be donating all their profits from the sales of the
single to the DEC’s Gaza appeal.

“One of my favourite rappers right now”
DJ Semtex (BBC 1Xtra + Dizzee Rascal’s DJ)
“One of the most intelligent and sickest MCs”
DJ MK (Kiss FM + Roots Manuva’s DJ)
Lowkey and Quincey Tones team up again for the anthemic ‘Tell Me Why’. Addressing everything from 9/11 and Myspace to YouTube, Rupert Murdoch and Big Brother; Lowkey tears a hole in the infectiously catchy production making for one of the best Hip Hop tracks of 09 so far. Already a radio favourite being played straight off the Dear Listener album promos, look out for the forthcoming maxi single featuring remixes with Cali P (biggest Reggae artist in Europe right now!) and Tinie Tempah and Professor Green.
LOWKEY (feat. Wretch32) – In My Lifetime – Free single download
In My Lifetime (download here) is the first official single off UK MC Lowkey’s new LP Dear Listener and features Wretch 32 of The Movement. The track is produced by Quincey Tones one of the UK’s most prominent hip hop producers, best known for his recent collaborations with US underground mainstays EMC (Masta Ace, Wordsworth etc…) and internet hit Ma Money feat L’il Wayne, Talib Kweli and Royce Da 5’9.
His first official album, ‘Dear Listener’ is an extremely honest and distinctly fresh project, laden with world class production from SCRAM JONES (MARIAH CAREY / G UNIT), STYALZ FUEGO (CHAMILLIONAIRE / BUSTA RHYMES), Q-TONES (LIL WAYNE) and more. Lowkey’s unique charisma acts as the saccharinely sweet delivery for the powerful, political messages that are delivered within many of the songs on the album. From the captivating story of ‘Relatives’ to the banging reggae tinged ‘Tell Me Why’, ‘Dear Listener’ is sure to be a late addition to be a classic. The incredible ‘Revolution’ hints at the collaborations to come, with an entirely beatboxed instrumental from FAITH SFX and guest vocals from JON McCLURE of REVEREND AND THE MAKERS.
Keep your eyes peeled Lowkey’s involvement in a supergroup band project named MONGREL. With Lowkey as the lead emcee, the band also includes members of the ARCTIC MONKEYS, BABYSHAMBLES and REVEREND AND THE MAKERS.
Wretch 32’s current single Be Cool and album Wretchrospective are also out. Chek.
