FUNKANOMICS: Odysseus (SHAKA A.V. Edit) (2014) Free download

Odysseus Shaka FunkanomicsSome time ago, Glaswegian comedian Limmy did a skit on ‘rapper’ Pitbull‘s inexplicable popularity, “One minute there’s nae Pitbull, the next there’s this guy aboot forty jumpin up and down on the stage in a suit like he’s just come straight out fae work…” Well, it doesn’t help that people like Funkanomics go and use a Pitbull ‘pella, even if it is on a disco beat. Or that Shaka

FUNKANOMICS & BADBOE: Remix The Version Part 2 (2014)

Remix The Version Part 2 Badboe FunkanomicsWelcome to Riddim Fruit’s latest crop yield which is this, Dephicit and Shimi Sonic remixed by Badboe and Funkanomics though not in that order. It’s actually Badboe who goes first and he gets his hands on Shimi Sonic’s Hot Peach. And filthy is the direction he goes in, making the beat bigger and adding some low end synth action. Funkanomics on the other hand fondle the glitchy

GHETTO FUNK PRESENTS: Bring The Boom (GFP16)(2013)

Some of you may be aware that Bim and Ben lead bands with brooms and furthermore that Ben’s band bangs and Bim’s band booms. While you’re pondering that, here’s something else that booms – Ghetto Funk‘s forthcoming Bring The Boom EP. JFB & Dancefloor Outlaws give Desmond Dekker some dnb boom, Timothy Wisdom gives LL Cool J some ghetto funk boom (don’t call it a comeback)

MR CONFUSE: Do You Realize: The remixes (2013)

This should be relatively simple to understand – Mr Confuse has had his recent Do You Realize LP remixed and he’s just released the results as Do You Realize: The remixes. In order to bring this about he’s assembled an impressive line up of production warriors which include a strong UK contingent (Smoove, Lack Of Afro, Daytoner, Dr Rubberfunk and Tom Eno) plus Hungarians

JOHNNY PLUSE: The Market Street Cut Up (2011) Digital release/ remixes

Not quite the East End gang brawl it sounds like, Johnny Pluse nevertheless brings along enough remixers for this digital re-release of 2009’s The Market Street Cut Up to almost make it worth starting a ruck. There are eleven mixes available from the likes of (deep breath) Ewan Hoozami, Quincy Jointz, Hong Kong Ping Pong, Totalcult, Mustbeat Crew, Rory Hoy, Dusty Tonez and Funkanomics. Gang leader Pluse’s skankin’ 2011

PULPFUSION: Sex, Drums, Funk & Roll EP (2011) + video,

Forget Swizz Beats – this is all about Swiss beats for it’s from the land of expensive watches and expansive bank accounts that PulpFusion hails. The Sex, Drums Funk & Roll EP finds Mr Terence Thony (there’s an umlaut on the ‘o’ but not on my keyboard) indulging his love of big ass drum breaks, funky samples and rock guitars in quite spectacular fashion. Oh yeah – and sex

BASEMENT FREAKS: Get Down Boogie – Single – 2011

Rating: ★★★★★
A highlight from Basement Freaks’ recent Something Freaky LP and obvious choice of single, Get Down Boogie is dancefloor gold. Featuring an infectious organ riff/ bassline double act, a Groove Is In The Heart style break (and tempo), plus (funnily enough) a big female vocal hook exhorting one to ‘Get down to the boogie,’ and referring ad infinitum to, ‘funky grooves,’ it’s a proper hands in the air number.

BIG M PRESENTS…Vol. 9 – Various Banging Artists No.3 – 2011

Big M goes bigger and harder than ever with this ‘Banging Artists’ drop. The release rightly leads with Funkanomics scarily heavy Cypress Hill rerub of Lick A Shot – the monstrous ghetto funked-up Licky Shot, then Chris Awesome cooks up a fat one – see what I did there? Have a listen you’ll work it out. Telephunken (clearly not contented with having his own four track EP out on Big M currently) has a bash at reworking Edwyn Starr’s heavy soul hitter 25 Miles
