T BIRD & THE BREAKS: The Big EZ (2013)

[RATING: 5]
T Bird & The Breaks‘ latest is their tribute to the Big Easy. Ahhh – the Big Easy. New Orleans. Funk city. While Detroit had Motown, Memphis had Stax and Chicago had Chess, New Orleans had…er…oh. Actually it turns out it didn’t have a big label to promote its wealth of funky talent back in the day. Not that a little thing like that stopped the Big Easy from becoming one of the most influential cities in the history of funk – The Meters, Lee Dorsey, Eddie Bo, Dr John, Mary Jane Hooper, Irma Thomas, Ernie K Doe, The Gaturs. I could go on but T Bird does it so much better – as he puts it at one point, “Aaron Neville and Cyril Neville/ Either one of them could sing down the devil.” I trust they performed this at their recent Mardi Gras gig in New Orleans where they only went and performed with The Funky Meters. I.e. The Meters. I.e. the greatest funk band ever. Cop it for a dollar below…
