SUBSTANTIAL: Follow The Master/ Cool Mornings (2015)

Follow The Master SubstantialProper job wax trax here from Virginian emcee Substantial who graces a nice funky break topped with a 60s-ish psych loop on Follow The Master and keeps the microphone warm with bars such as, “I shit on everything like I’ve never been Pamper-ed/ I sell ’em like I’m Frederick Sanford…I be rippin up the stage like I’m tearing up floorboards/ You don’t keep ’em engaged they just lay on the floor bored.” Luckily fevered brows are fanned on the flip as, ably assisted by Deborah Bond (over what is almost the theme to The Good Life), things get a little more lovey dovey on Cool Mornings. Nice work.
(Out 7 October onvinyl and digital on Origu)
