STEP BROTHERS (ALCHEMIST & EVIDENCE): Lord Steppington (2014)

Lord Steppington is the long-threatened album drop on Rhymesayers from the Step Brothers team of sometime Whooligan, Alchemist and sometime Dilated person, Evidence. The fourteen tracker features a veritable family gathering of underground hip-hop guests (Domo Genesis, Styles P, Action Bronson, Roc Marciano, Fashawn, Rakaa Iriscience, Blu and Oh No) which verges on the epic. And yet myriad guests maketh not a party it seems – not that the paranoid beats and complex lyrical content are intended to be the life and soul – and this update of the nineties stoner rap meanders around absorbed in a fugue of introspection like an ugly sister with the mother of all skunk hangovers. Production however, is everything you’d expect from one man who’s produced for the Beasties and Kanye (i.e. Evidence) and another man who’s produced for Mobb Deep and Nas.
