RUCKUS ROBOTICUS feat. THE LADY TIGRA: Come Alive (2013)

Lady Tigra and Keith Cheatham guesting on the same record? Not bad. For the uninitiated, Lady Tigra was one half of late 80s booty bass duo L’Trimm and is well fit. Still. Cheatham is on here too (despite lacking a credit in the title) and was guitarist for 70s funk band Sun now to be found laying down licks for Bootsy’s Rubber Band. Not that L.A.-based Ruckus Roboticus is a stranger to the high profile collabo having hooked up with Spanky Wilson for last year’s T.G.I.F. (Thank God It’s Funky). Lyrically Come Alive is Lady Tigra’s ode to her free time describing how she ‘comes alive’ when ‘they let…[her]…go outside.’ Although this makes it sound a bit like her employers are infringing some basic human rights, La Tigra assures us that once outside, “She’s the boss” – a sentiment reinforced by a dirty vocoder hook and RR’s beat which ably channels the fat electro hip-hop sound of 1988 Miami.
