ROCAFORT RECORDS: Latin Underground Revolution Vol. 3 (Vinyl 7″)

J ROCAFORT RECORDS: Latin Underground Revolution Vol. 3ust in time for Christmas ears if not for stockings (it releases on Christmas Eve) comes the third instalment in Rocafort Records’, Latin Underground Revolution series. That’ll be the comprehensively (if not snappily) titled Latin Underground Revolution Vol. 3: Ansonia Records Rare Groove: Mambo, Boogaloo, Descarga & Salsa from NYC, 1960-1976.  A six-track, triple vinyl 7″ pack fully licensed by Ansonia Records? The very same and yes you certainly do want some of that! As with its predecessors, this one comes with extensive liner notes from writer and historian Pablo Yglesias (a.k.a DJ Bongohead of Peace & Rhythm) who inherits the duty from DJ Timber.  On this collection the salsa of Mon Rivera Y Su Orquesta’s A Mi Plin and Noro Morales’ Vitamina and Frankie Figaroa Y Su Orquesta La Madre’s El Mejor Soy Yo will certainly engender a bit of Cuban fury on the dancefloor. If you’re like the monkey however, it’s all about the boogaloo of Gilberto Sextet’s funky nugget Do You Want To Be Free, Cortijo Y Su Combo’s Calefaccion Aqui and perhaps best of all, Joesito Mateo Y Su Combo’s sinuous Boogaloo Para Ti. Rocafort Records then, as they say themselves, ‘siempre con los ultimos exitos’ – of yesteryear at least!
(Out 24 December on Rocafort Records)
