MELTING RECORDS: ‘Humble Dubbers’ Vinyl LP COMPETITION (2017)

MELTING RECORDS: 'Humble Dubbers' Vinyl LP Competition(For competition details, skip to the end – closing date Thursday 5th October)
All keen downtempo fiends should know by now the name of Melting Records, since this Greece and France-based label has been dropping quality mellow bombs since 2013 – including last year’s classy The Blue Square long player from The Blue Square. Recently however, the label have decided to broaden their horizons from what has been, until now, largely a trip-hop, cinematic breaks and lounge output to include other downtempo genres. And what could be a better fit for this new concept than that of dub reggae? Arguably none which is perhaps why the first such release is the recently-dropped compilation album Humble Dubbers. Not that those involved have any call to display humility since Humble Dubbers is as fine a ten-track set of atmospheric dub cuts as any label could reasonably be expected to assemble.

Supplying said stoner-friendly anthems is an impressive crew who number among them several who will be familiar with MB readers. Skinshape, Ancient Astronauts’ Kabanjak and Shimi Sonic have all previously popped up on MB-featured releases – the latter not even with regard to downtempo releases. Also present are Burnt Friedman & The Nu Dub PLayers, Ticklah, Colman Brothers, Lo End Dub, Yesking, Dubmatix, Victor Rice & Coldspot 8 and Resonators. While Humble Dubbers displays the quality control and consistency you’d expect from the label given past releases, it is worth mentioning that this LP opens with a particularly fine trio of cuts in the form of the dusty lilt of Burnt Friedman’s Worth A Dub, Ticklah bubbler Nine Years and Colman Brothers’ Momo which displays both southern European and jazzy influences. After reading all that, of course, you’re bound to want to get you clammy hands on a copy. Happily, Melting Records knew what you wanted before you did, so they’ve set up a competition exclusively for MB readers for a lucky punter to win the compilation on vinyl – instructions below. Don’t sleep!
