MAKO & THE HAWK vs. MORLACK: Ghetto Assassins EP (2012)

Billed as some sort of martial arts-style music production death match, the Ghetto Assassins EP pits one of the most prolific ghetto funk ninjas against possibly the laziest pair of breaks-shinobi in the known universe. In the last two years, Morlack has dropped an entire album plus more EPs, and freebies than you’ve had hot dinners – whereas Mako & The Hawk have put out a couple of freebies and released precisely nothing officially. Until now. So as far as they’re concerned, this is their debut. Players and PR guff below…

(PRESS RELEASE) Prepare for dancefloor carnage as seasoned ghetto-funk priest Morlack crosses blades with deadly mash-up monks Mako & The Hawk on the ‘Ghetto Assassins EP.’ Within its confines, expect to find four audio chambers of funky breaks flavour to slay the crowd at every stage of your set. In the first of these, lone wolf Morlack displays party-starting mastery with go-go disco cut Big Flow while in the second, Mako & The Hawk unleash peak-time ghetto-punk-funk/ booty-bass banger Doug Clash. The final two chambers see Morlack return to demonstrate the devastating power of ghetto soul on Heaven’s Posse and Mako & The Hawk reveal at last their secret combined style of bootleg rocksteady rap action. Their form is effortless: their techniques magnificent! Buy the Ghetto Assassins EP – or die!
(Out 15 November on Funk Blasters)
