HOLLIE COOK: Full Moon Baby + video + 2022 tour dates

HOLLIE COOK: Full Moon BabyDo you like a bit of Hollie Cook? The monkey likes a bit of Hollie Cook. It’s good news then to hear that she’s back with a new album – Happy Hour – in June. Naturally there’ll be some singles before that of course and the first of those is this one, Full Moon Baby. If you’ve been following Hollie for a bit, you may remember her brand of poppy but classy reggae has hitherto been described as ‘tropical pop’. It says here though that the new material sees her, ‘mature into the queen of modern day lovers’ rock.’ Seems reasonable – I’d say she’s pretty much been that all along. If anything, there’s been a slightly dreamy and ethereal feel to more recent stuff from the Cook camp which you’ll notice if you compare anything off the last LP or Full Moon Baby to the likes of Milk & Honey or Shadow Kissing. Mind you, if you’ve seen her live you’ll know she’s always been given to endearing verbal hippy-isms on stage. Or in the PR too, as in this case. Turns out the title Full Moon Baby is not a reference to a night of frolicking under the stars at some festival but is in fact channelling the good vibes Hollie experienced recently when two of her mates gave birth. Or as she puts it, “Moons and babies both have such a soft, gentle nature to them and fill me with wonder. Also, babies look like tiny moons.” Nuff said.
(Happy Hour LP out 24 June on Merge Records)
