Rating: One-bar loops can have a tendency to be a little wearing on the ears but damn if The Alchemist doesn’t apply the philosopher’s stone to base music – or the producer’s stone to bass music, if you will. Of course it helps if your co-worker is legendary lyricist Havoc of Mobb Deep and additional assistance is provided by mighty mic manipulator, Method Man. It’s the latest single from Havoc and Alchemist’s soon-to-be-released LP Silent Partner and finds the aforementioned H and M trading gangsta-themed bars over sublimely funereal pianos, orchestral human voices and a rolling organic drum break. Transmutation achieved.
