German breaks-man Freethinker Funk Essence brings the essence of his freethinking approach to the funk once more on his Record Store EP. The three-tracker kicks off with the appropriately named spy-funky The Spy Of Mrs Lee which pits a moody Rhodes against itchy wah-wah and horns, follows up with the blaxploitation funk of the title track and closes with the jazz-funky Quentin’s Lost Movie. Apparently this man knows the frustration of spending hours digging in record stores and turning up precisely nada – which perhaps explains why he might just have resorted to some of his own compositions here and shows what you can do with a keyboard and the miracles of modern technology!
