Latterday Sam and Dave, Daptone Records‘s Bob & Gene revisit their own sweet soul B-side Lonely Nights from last year with the help of Antibalas producer Victor Axelrod and his Kingston three-piece band The Inversions. Thus transformed, the original song has become a sweet reggae-soul A-side I Can’t Stand These Lonely Nights as our men once again wistfully contemplate the pain of unrequited love but this time in an island stylee, obviously. Instro version B-side Rub The Lamp is also on hand with a title suggesting an alternative activity for those nights when no woman is present as the band go – er – solo without B&G. We’ve all been there. Available (correctly) on wax for vinyl commandos but also free courtesy of the label itself.
