BETA HECTOR ENSEMBLE: King Lunp Theme b/w Into The Light (Vinyl 7″)

BETA HECTOR ENSEMBLE: King Lunp Theme b/w Into The Light (Vinyl 7Next from Delights Records is this 45 from the Beta Hector Ensemble, a.k.a. Simon Hill – Baby Charles alumnus – and indeed Delights Records alumnus since he’s the bassist for MNP. Right – so that means he’s been in both a retro jazz-funk-soul band and a retro psych/ cinematic breaks outfit? Could this release see him representing his experience in both outfits? I think it could. King Lunp Theme is a darkly cinematic slab of syncopated psych that fits right in with the heavy paranoid retro psychedelia for which Delights has carved a reputation and builds to a tortured crescendo. Into The Light on the other hand meanders along a more jazzy Schifrin-esque route with an undercurrent of darkness. You know, like the Scorpio killer calmly driving a hijacked busload of children down Pacific Coast Highway.
(Out 1 February on Delights Records)
