30 DECEMBER 2009
Yeah – so I got the heads up the other day that the 2010 Adi webby was all go – and so it is. Not vastly different to the old Adi webby, it has to be said, you can of course check product as before…
...those early-90s style Pete Eldridge Superstars above for example – or these resurrected ‘Skates’ – fresh from the 70s archive…
…Adidas also continue their campaign to deny me a black and white cup sole Campus as the vulcanised version and the footy-influenced Busenitz appear to still be going strong…
…plus there are some new t shirts (admittedly not all as sombre as these) and flannel shirts and hoodies. Oh yeah - and there’s also a fair bit of downloady goodness including footage of the team in SF, all new rider, interviews, an ad archive, and more.
P.s. If anyone from Adidas Originals is reading this – I wonder if I might trouble you to persuade the powers that be to do a Franz Beckenbauer tracktop in Black and grey or black and gold. Just a thought…

Hard to find fault with these Tang-y offerings from the Ghostface/ Adidas hook-up. What you see is what you get – rock these and you couldn’t (Killa) Bee more fly. Difficult to see Wu wouldn’t want a pair really.

The name alone should indicate that Slut is not a company to compromise, so I’m sure that they will have no problem at all agreeing with me when I say that their style is in your face like a money shot. Don’t believe me? Check the pics below. It should come as no surprise to you that they are also a clothing company who know how to get down. Their launch party in 2006 was so impressively debauched they had another one the next week and then one the week after that. Now, three years later, Love Riot is one of the fastest and loosest club nights in the southwest. We’ll overlook the predilection for house DJs at Love Riot nights because a) soul/ hip-hop legend Norman Jay has also played there and b) some of the Slut’s founders ride the wave-steed of ancient Hawaiian kings a.k.a. the bodyboard. Here’s what they have to say…
(PRESS RELEASE) SLUT is a boutique fashion and partying brand from Cornwall, dedicated to serving the needs and desires of those with a penchant for seriously enjoying life. Owned and run by surfers from Porthleven, and a fisherman from St. Just, we have a firm background in surfing, skating, music, design and partying, or whatever it takes to have a bloody good time. On the clothing front, we aim to be a refreshing alternative to the corporate surf brands which dominate today's market, whilst still being able to relate to the great many of you who couldn't care less about surfing but share our interests in brilliant clothes, partying and just plain enjoying life.
Our designs are inspired by a tongue in cheek look at our lives here in Cornwall, Ireland, London and further afield. We place a great emphasis on making our products to a high quality, and have a talented small team of designers helping to ensure this. A couple of whom take great pleasure in secretly moonlighting from their day jobs for us, where they design for a couple of very influencial UK brands.

20 OCTOBER 2009
I don’t really need to say anything about these do I? Oh go on then. Once upon a time there were two brothers Adolf and Rudolf who are at the root of a story which (despite the fact that it sounds like it’s going to be about Nazi reindeer) is about shoes. Dope shoes. After a misunderstanding in an air-raid shelter their shoe company partnership ended. Adolf called his half of the business Adidas, derived (somewhat contrivedly) from Adi (short for Adolf) plus the first syllable of his surname DASsler while Rudi went on to form a company called Ruda derived (in an equally contrived way) from RUdolf DAssler – though, luckily, he realised that sounded a bit shit and later changed it to Puma. Consequently, back in the day, b-boys could pick kicks from two dope selections, the absolute kings among which were the Adidas Superstar and these – the Puma Suede. Amazingly both brothers had hit on freshness so total that these styles are still with us today and wearing them will still elevate your cool to rarified heights. Just remember to waterproof them before you wear them, keep a spare toothbrush to clean them with and always rock fat laces. Oh yeah – best buy two pairs when you see a colour scheme you like too. Ladies and gentlemen – the Puma Suede for October and November 2009…

26 SEPTEMBER 2009
It’s autumn – and here’s four reasons not to kick up leaves with what you’ve been wearing on your feet all summer. The Superstar is the new Gonz and there’s another two Campus styles over on the Adidas skate page. Just one question. Why won’t they do a cup sole Campus in the black and white?

7 SEPTEMBER 2009
New t-shirts from Stussy – yay...sorry – what? £34.50 a shout? I wanted a t-shirt not a second mortgage? Are they stitched with spun gold thread? Diamante logos with real diamonds? Next thing you know it’ll be £90 for a plaid shirt and over a ton for a hoodie. Oh. It is. Cool designs as always but why so pricey? And nobody’s allowed to answer that with ‘you can’t put a price on style.’

Cool - a new Pete Eldridge signature Superstar shoe. Would that be white with three navy black stripes by any chance?...
With skills and style and a long history of rocking adidas, Pete Eldridge is the new addition to the adidas Skateboarding team. Pete's been on a mission recently to destroy everything in his path - including his recent Mystery video part, his performance at both Tampa Pro and the Maloof Money Cup, and his part in the adidas European video, Diagonal. There are big things in store for Pete at adidas Skateboarding, including his first signature color way shoe, dropping in 2010. It's a Pete staple, none other than the Superstar, a shoe Pete has been skating in since way back in the day. His first adidas ad is running this month in fine skate publications and a new feature just launched on the adidas skateboarding website, welcoming him to the team.

a.k.a. BOARDSPORTS FASHION - AN OVERVIEW
(Text by Hardcloud) Youth culture is constantly evolving and the trends that go with it seem to be as diverse as the youth themselves. The pursuit of individuality and ability to break free from parents appeals to most young people at some stage and having a platform on which to explore and express their identities is a vital part of young adulthood. Throughout the shifting trends of youth fashion, a recurring theme has been the desire for young people to distance themselves from their parents` world of stiff collared shirts and plain fabrics. It is perhaps not surprising that the surf look, with its bold prints, loose fitting clothes and laidback vibe, has been so enduring within youth culture and fashion for so long.
Boardsports and popular fashion are two worlds that have long been intertwined, with surf and snow brands seeking to align themselves with current trends and fashion designers constantly finding inspiration in the bold colours and laidback vibe of the boarding community. Long shorts, loose palm tree print shirts and funky flip flops have often been spotted on the catwalk shows of major brands, such as Gucci, D&G and Chanel. Boardsports fashion has unsurprisingly had a major impact on popular culture by transcending the surfing community and extending board culture to the general public.
The influence of boardsports fashion on popular culture has been both rapid and extensive. Nowadays, anyone that relates to the `work to live`, carefree values that are so deeply ingrained in boardsports fashion, whether they actually participate in boardsports or not, can express themselves through the clothes they wear, music they listen to and even the movies they watch.
All fashions change quickly and of course trends, by definition, come and go with the seasons. Yet with board fashions, there are certain pieces that enjoy enduring appeal. Boardshorts, for example, have been an integral part of surfing culture since the sixties when the long sandy beaches and big waves of California first popularised the sport. The attraction of these flexible garments is the way they epitomize the laidback, easygoing vibe of the surf community. They look great on dry land and can be worn by guys and girls alike and when the surf gets up they allow you the freedom to dive straight in without a second thought.
Another time-honoured favourite is the classic big-soled footwear, made famous by Vans. These comfortable yet stylish trainers are particularly popular with boardsports fans as they look great and can be kicked off easily when the mood takes you. While boardsports fashion can skilfully reflect current trends and seasonal variation, its principal appeal is in the way the clothing, like the surf community itself, refuses to answer to anyone. So for anyone that doesn`t want to take life too seriously, throw on some Volcom board shorts or a pair of Reef sandals, get down to the beach and enjoy the real meaning of life.

19 JULY 2009
What do you know? An actual proper skateshoe company has picked up on the massive demand for classic retro styles that has enabled Nike, Adidas, Converse and Puma to coin it in for the last few years at what must be great expense to companies like Etnies and DVS, not to mention terminal expense to all those who’ve gone out of business. Clearly looking at the big players and thinking, “We’ll have some of that,” Etnies have re-launched skate legend Sal Barbier’s Sal 23 in collaboration with Hawaiian skate/ streetwear co. In4mation. Also clearly taking their cue from the backlash against big puffy tongues this time around the Sal’s a bit skinnier. Check this link for a full interview with the big man himself courtesy of chemicalrecords.co.uk…

6 JULY 2009
Here you go then – the latest Superstar that wasn’t featured in the first monkeyboxing.com feature about Adidas’ summer ’09 drop. It has to be said that the monkey’s not really feeling the black/ ‘electricity’/ lead colourway nor the see-through sole.
Also, Adidas' first full-length skate vid. Diagonal is now fully stream-able on the site HERE and features performances from a host of Euro skaters including the UK's very own Chewy Cannon as well as guest appearances from Gonz - among others.
And finally – how about this – there is a skate version of the Campus with a cup sole after all. Don’t bother looking on the Adidas skate site though nor the Adidas Originals section of the online store. Oh no. “But, then in which exclusive sneaker boutique or hardcore underground skate store may I avail myself of a pair?” you ask. The answer my friends is blowing in the cyber-wind - these Campus’s appear to be exclusive to chav chain JD Sports. What’s up with that?
