SA-ROC: Queen Ting (2016) Free download

Queen Ting Sa-RocRhymesayers signing Sa-Roc provides a timely reminder (some forty years after the appearance of her near namesake and first female rapper ever, Funky Four + 1’s Sha-Rock) of just how dope female emcees can be with the dancehall-tinged Queen Ting as part of a her weekly free song/video Wisdom Wednesdays series. Said track finds her busting out rhymes over artfully distorted boom-bap. Or as she puts it, “Voice honey coated, lil bit of gravel in it. For them classic rhymes with a lil bit of savage in em.” The entire video features her sat on a park bench rapping with a boombox behind her filmed from neck to lap. I’m not one to speculate but there could be a message in there about the way women’s bodies are typically shot in music videos. It’s all part of her Wisdom Wednesdays free song/ video series and you can cop it below…
