JAZZ SPASTIKS: The Product (2014)

The Product Jazz SpastiksThe jazz-rap vinyl resistance (or should that be renaissance) continues apace as Edinburgh-based Jazz Spastiks and Dusty Platter signings (re)-drop dope LP The Product (originally only available in cd and digital) to all the vinyl junkies. In doing so they add a highly respectable contribution to the recent spate of such material from Kista & Glad2Mecha, the Blunted Astronaut label (and themselves) not to mention the wider boom-bap vinyl underground that includes such movers and shakers as DJ Format, Phill Most Chill, Bankrupt Europeans, The Good People, Soundsci and Jorun Bombay. Not only can you now avail yourself of twelve black inches of Jazz Spastiks but unusually, twelve white inches too, since the LP comes in both colours. Sprinkled among the sixteen tracks of dusty jazz-sample-based hip-hop are appearances from a number a number of stateside emcees including Apani B Fly, Ladybug Mecca of Digable Planets and the mighty Count Bass D. In fact, it’s all about the effortless Bass D cut Delicious. Well he is, “larger than Texas and you can’t outsex this…”
(Out now on Dusty Platter)
