101 (a.k.a. Hundred Strong feat Surreal): Pure Science (2012)

101 is Bristol’s Hundred Strong and Stateside microphone fiend Surreal who’ve hooked up for Pure Science – a funky nugget of head-nod hip-hop that’s definitely had a bit of a blaze. Blaxploitation bass, crisp breaks and hammond keys chug away, labelmate Mr Fantastic is on the cut creating a post-modern hook out of other people’s rhymes and Surreal has a word with the red-eyed listener about the enduring art form of blunted beats and rhymes. And since he effortlessly drops lines about how he “…[rocks]…the party like a dreadlocked Yardie,” and has, “been in hip-hop since the days of Atari,” who are we to argue? Got any Rizla mate?
(Out early July 2012 on High Noon)
